Which vegetables can guinea-pigs eat and not eat?

You need to give your guinea-pigs one cup of vegetables per day per guinea-pig, this is because they cannot make it themselves so, like humans, they need to get it from their food. Do not use vitamin c drops or pills at all - they are unlikely to eat these and the vitamin c drops can make their food/water taste different and then they will refuse to eat/drink it. As long as they have a cup full of vegetables per day they will get enough vitamin c. They can get some Vitamin C from their food, which should be a guinea-pig food (not rabbit food as this doesn't have as much vitamin C in it) but the majority of the vitamin c they need they should get from vegetables. They can also have fruit but not in too large portions.

What vegetables can guinea-pigs eat?
  • Turnip
  • Water Cress
  • Romaine Lettuce (not Iceberg lettuce)
  • Carrots
  • Bell Pepper (remove seeds and stalk before giving it to your guinea-pig)
  • Cucumber
  • Baby Corn
  • Green Beans
  • Chinese Lettuce
  • Spinach
  • Cauliflower Leaves
  • Cabbage
  • Broccoli
  • Asparagus
  • Celery
  • Parsnips

What fruit can guinea-pigs eat?

  • Apple - not too regularly as it can cause a sore mouth
  • Banana - again not too regularly
  • Strawberries
  • Raspberry
  • Peach
  • Pear
  • Watermelon
  • Sweet Cherries
  • Blueberries
  • Blackberries

Fruit in general should not be fed very often, but it is a good idea to feed your guinea-pigs a mix of vegetables so they have enough Vitamin C.

Celery is actually very bad for them because they can easily get stuck in there throat!! I'v heard so many stories about it! It would be horrible to see a piggie die over a piece of celery!
Even if you havnt ha a problem YET you will have one!! Also, my piggies love watermelon!

Not if you cut it into chunks; the strings are then too short to be any danger.
